Is it me, or does COP26 seem to be more relevant than all the other 25 COPs that have taken place?  And whilst there have been discussions of the 1.5-degree limit over recent years, I certainly can’t recall there being just this much focus on it.

COP (Conference of the Parties) is the supreme decision-making body of an annual Global meeting (or Convention) on Climate Change.

Glendalough in Co. Wicklow is a fantastic place. I stayed over there during one of my final pre-lockdown business trips in March. Looking through some photos from my run (it would have been rude not to) I came across this image of a pile of logs.

The tourists, including me, were all straining for the best photo. Just how close can, or should, we get to this, the scariest edge I’ve been at for a while?

Today was the last flight of the BA747s.  I remember well the first time I was on board one, in steerage, and then in more recent times when I was on the upper deck.  A great craft that has been with BA for half its lifetime, in many ways symbolised it and certainly made it a lot of profit, and even to step on board had an air of glamour about it.  No more. 

I took up gardening during Lockdown. Sure, why not.

Since lockdown began, I’ve pretty much worked from home. I’ve even set myself up with a new office, including sit/stand desk, screen and keyboard, as there are now two of us working from home. Zoom and MS Teams have been my friends.

The Occupational Health and Safety management standard, OHSAS18001, has been around for some time now. For a long time, it was seen as the benchmark for organizations to aspire to in relation to OHS. However, times move on, and whilst OHSAS18001 has been revised in line with current practice a number of times, with the current version dated OHSAS18001:2007, it will not be revised again. From March 2021 it will cease to be, it will be an ex-standard (insert dead parrot joke here).

The waste industry has been asked to contribute to a forthcoming report that will identify the scale of people sleeping in waste containers and offer preventative measures.

They say that travel broadens the mind. Well I went exploring today in sunny (snowy) Bangor. Exploring successful business journeys that is, at the Grow Economit Summit run by Ards and North Down Borough Council.

ISO45001:2018 is an occupational health & safety management standard. Of management standards it sits head and shoulders above the range of other management standards, a Mont Blanc of standards if you will.
