Who was your first concert?
Crammed onto too small a stage in Simmonscourt, Dublin, the first band I saw live was Queen. None of your Adam Lamberts here, this was the real thing. Freddie Mercury et al, blasting out hit after hit and we loved it. One year before they effectively brought the crowd and the world to life when they took Wembley by storm at Live Aid. Who will ever forget it?
That first concert will live long in my memory - I can still see Freddie running around the stage, conducting us all. I made the trip down with a few of my school mates. Not too many bands were making the trip up North at that stage, so either you travelled, or you didn’t see them. Mostly you just didn’t see them.
Other things I didn't see all that much of face to face for a good couple of years were my clients. However, with remote working, mostly through MS Teams and MS SharePoint, in the last couple of years my business has grown and thrived. I’ve stood here day in, day out, and helped take away my clients’ regulatory, management systems and ISO concerns. This allowed them to get on with what they do best, be that in manufacturing, financial, construction or whatever area they work in, and allowed me to focus on their Health and Safety, Environmental and Quality needs. It has worked out well for us all.
Now I’m starting to get back to their sites more regularly and going forward the intention will be that this blended approach of remote working, with some element of onsite, will form the basis for client need and delivery. If it works for my clients, it works for me.
I’m all too aware that if the Pandemic had happened back in the day it would have been a different story, however through technology advances my work and that of my clients has been able to develop significantly.
It was quite a number of years before I followed up my Queen concert with my next band. This year, after an enforced hiatus, I should be back at Glastonbury for the seventh consecutive (almost) time and can’t wait. I guess Queen gave me the live music bug.
