Being ‘liked’ by a ‘famous’ makes you feel really, really good

Dame Kelly Holmes liked one of my Tweets a while back…she was back at her old school and rather than call one of her old teachers Debbie, I had suggested she call her Miss Paige.  I guess you had to be there!

Kelly, as many of you will know, took a huge risk at the weekend by staking her golden reputation on successfully completing the Virgin London Marathon. As many of us also know, she was more than successful and blasted it.

Many of us know because Kelly knows how to communicate well, and the fact that she has fun in the process also helps!

Kelly will have known that to achieve maximum return for the Dame Kelly Trust, she would need to let the general populous know what she was doing. To achieve this, she focused quite a bit on the running community, who would tell her story, and attended as many Parkruns as she could as part of her training program.

She also optimized the use of Twitter (and probably other social media), press and television and got as much communication as possible about her charity, again to maximize the amount of money going to all the good causes.

If there was a ‘Carlsberg’ example to follow of how to communicate, this was it…determine what you want to communicate; when to communicate it; with whom to communicate; how to communicate; and who communicates. As it happens, this is also very similar to clause 7.4 of ISO9001:2015

And if this was a‘Carlsberg’ day..., Kelly Holmes will now be following me on Twitter...:)
